Peter James is a Brisbane based professional with over 30 years in the spatial and IT industries. Peter commenced his career as a land surveyor in the Northern Territory where he could practice his profession in the outback that he loved. He then transitioned into the GIS industry as an early adopter and was responsible for developing a number of spatial systems for the Tasmania Government, which is about as far away from the NT as you can get, but, another place he came to love.
Seeking a broader career Peter then transitioned into the IT world and developed an intimate understanding of how IT influences and enhances both private and public organisations’ business goals. During this period Peter gained considerable practical experience in planning, organising, implementing and coordinating complex IT projects, and developing long term IT strategies.
Peter currently works for Cohga, an Australian Software Company focussed on Spatial Systems Integration. He is focussed on Sales and Business Development and is drawing on the contacts, experience, and wisdom gathered over the many years in the spatial and IT industries to make this successful.
Peter is passionate about promoting and developing the spatial industry and is a past Director of the SIBA GITA Business Association and past Chair of the Queensland SIBA GITA Branch. Peter currently represents SIBA GITA on the Council of ICT Associations and the Ministerial ICT Advisory Council, as well as the Locate 20 Organising Committee.
